CONSERVATION WILDLIFE
CONGRESS 2018

GLOBAL CONGRESS (postponed to 2018)

African Ark Conservation Wildlife Congress 2018: Discover new solutions, strategies and inspiration: Shape new policies, engage decision-makers, elevate ambitions.
Conservation Wildlife Congress 2018
People, Protection, Planet, Poaches & Change…
Protection of the environment & natural resources

Corporate responsibility and engagement of Government, NGO’s, foundations, industry and corporate professionals coming together face-to-face to create impactful partnerships and effectively engage in the creating of change for the future.
Effective protection and management of African Animals and the environment is Africa’s lifeblood and vital for sustainability.
We even cover the tough questions – Armed conflict
Armed conflict has a wide range of long and short term effects on the environment, including lost habitat, environmental services, and biodiversity, among just some of the issues. Not to mention disputes over land, oil, and other natural resources are often contributing causes of conflict in Africa. Protection of African Wildlife and the environment at all stages of armed conflict is very difficult to manage and some of the consequences apart from endangers whole species include loss of habitat, environmental services and biodiversity to name a few and contribute to the conflict.

African Wildlife, Diamonds, timber, ivory, and other natural resources have provided revenue streams to most African countries for decades and assist in financing conflicts.

HELP KEEP OUR LEGENDS ALIVE

There has never been a more pressing time to protect vulnerable endangered African species than now, threatening the future existence of whole species.

Devastating effects of African wildlife animals from poaching, hunting, illegal and unsustainable wildlife trade to supporting governments to assist on enforcing illegal export protection laws – when we all work together, we can achieve so much more.

Illegal wildlife trade is a serious criminal industry and estimated to be worth more than 12 billion US dollars each year. While threatening the future existence of whole species, it devastates already vulnerable communities, drives corruption, linked to terrorism and undermines efforts to cut poverty.

There is also clear evidence that insurgent or terrorist groups do benefit from illegally trading African wildlife, which undermines the international rule of law and the economies of African nations and their legitimate trading partners working within Africa.

Elephant Conservation
Elephant poaching in Africa follows a similar trend to that of rhinos above. The level of poaching has been rapidly escalating since 2006, with levels rising dramatically in 2011. The level of poaching has dramatically risen across all African subregions, and has now passed the threshold at which it is sustainable. Because the number of elephants being killed far outnumbers those being born, African elephant populations are in a state of decline.

Rhino Conservation
The rate at which rhinos are being exterminated by poachers is truly alarming. In South Africa alone, where rhino poaching has increased by 4000% since 2007, 1.6 rhinos are slaughtered every day, which equates to 576 rhinos killed every year. This level of poaching cannot be sustained. Very soon there will be no rhino left at all, and our children and grandchildren will only see these animals in books.

Cheetah Conservation
Like the rhino and elephant, cheetah populations are in sharp decline and the species is at risk of going extinct unless drastic conservation measures are implemented. However, unlike rhino and elephant, the decline in cheetah numbers is not solely due to poaching, although poaching together with indiscriminate trapping and killing by livestock farmers has taken its toll and is partly to blame.
